Melbourne visitors increase

Melbourne Airport has experienced 5 per cent growth in passenger numbers for the last quarter of 2009 giving further indication that the travel and tourism sector is turning around. The airport’s international market showed very strong growth, up 14 per cent for the quarter, equaling more than five million international passengers for the first time ever in a calendar year. The domestic passenger market grew 3 per cent year on year mainly due to the increase in discounted airfares from the major airlines and excellent accommodation deals being offered by many of the hotels.

Melbourne Park Revamp ( Melbourne Hotels)

The Victorian Government will spend $363 million revamping Margaret Court Arena and spectator facilities at Melbourne Park. The park is home to the Australian Open, one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most valuable major events, adding $160m to the
Australian economy. each year.

Qantas A380 Boost for Melbourne

Qantas has commenced Melbourne to London A380 services with the inaugural Melbourne to London via Singapore service departing yesterday evening. The addition of the new route takes Qantas A380 services to London to four per week.
