Melbourne visitors increase
Melbourne Airport has experienced 5 per cent growth in passenger numbers for the last quarter of 2009 giving further indication that the travel and tourism sector is turning around. The airport’s international market showed very strong growth, up 14 per cent for the quarter, equaling more than five million international passengers for the first time ever in a calendar year. The domestic passenger market grew 3 per cent year on year mainly due to the increase in discounted airfares from the major airlines and excellent accommodation deals being offered by many of the hotels.
