The Victorian Government has welcomed the release of the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Survey that ranks Melbourne as the world's most liveable city. Melbourne replaced Vancouver to become the best city in the world to live in the recent survey. The next highest Australian city was Sydney which ranked in sixth place.
Victorian Treasurer Kim Wells said Melbourne's new number one ranking will be an economic boon for Victoria.
"This is an internationally renowned survey that will put Melbourne and Victoria top of mind for international tourists and business investors."
"Melbourne's number one ranking has the potential to deliver new economic benefits through increased tourism and business investment," Mr Wells said.
"The relatively high Australian dollar and international economic uncertainty has placed pressure on tourism operators in Melbourne and regional Victoria so this result will provide priceless tourism marketing,” he added.
